It is a core part of the league’s mission to promote sportsmanship and fair play and to ensure these goals are achieved the league has developed the following procedures and penalties as a deterrent. While some may get caught up in the heat of the moment, there is no excuse or excusing unsportsmanlike, threatening or flagrantly violent conduct in youth lacrosse.

Coaches and parents are expected to set an example, and are generally held to a higher standard than players when considering violations of the code of conduct reported to the league.

For all disciplinary actions against players, the league follows this process:
  1. A referee’s report is sent to the Discipline Committee Chairman.  Please note that this report comes from the Arizona Lacrosse Officials Association (ALOA), the independent organization that oversees lacrosse officials and contracts to assign them to league games, and may take up to 48 hours from the incident to be reported. The ALOA reserves the right to revise, amend or augment that report beyond the comments from the match officials.
  2. The Chairman forwards the report to the Committee members.
  3. The Chairman emails the head coach of both teams involved in the incident report; this email includes a description of the incident as stated by the officials and asks if there are any other facts pertaining to the incident that they would like the Committee to be aware of when making its decision.  Coaches have 24 hours from the time the report is sent to respond.  No response is required to continue the process.
  4. The Chairman emails the Committee members any information provided by the coaches as well as any patterns or trends documented about a specific player or team that is involved in an incident.
  5. Committee members have 24 hours to deliberate and discuss the facts of the incident and issue a recommendation of Disciplinary Action. 
  6. The Chairman collects the recommendation for disciplinary action and presented to the Committee members for a vote.  The Chairman does not vote with the Committee members, however in the event of a tie, the Chairman will act as the tie breaker.
  7. The Chairman notifies the affected team and the ALOA of the disciplinary actions recommended by the Committee members.
Notes:
  1. If a player is suspended by the Committee, but that player is allowed by his team to participate in a game and the team loses the appeal; the player will be suspended for the number of games he participates during the appeal process as well as the original number of games he is suspended.
Ex 1: Player A is given a 2-game suspension, Player A’s Team Appeals the decision and allows Player A to participate in 2 games while the Appeal Process in completed.  At the end of the appeal Player A’s suspension is upheld, therefore Player A serves the original 2-game suspensions as well as an additional 2 games for the games he participated in for a total of a 4-game suspension.
 
Ex 2: Player A is given a 2-game suspension, Player A’s Team Appeals the decision and allows Player A to participate in 2 games while the Appeal Process in completed.  At the end of the appeal Player A’s suspension is reversed, therefore Player A will not serve any suspension.
 
  1. If a player is ejected from a game and the team allows the player to play in another game prior to the Committee’s completion of its investigation and notification of disciplinary action and the Committee then recommends an additional suspension; the player will be suspended for the number of games he participates during the investigation/notification process as well as the original number of games he is suspended.
  2. If a player is given a suspension that he cannot complete because he runs out of eligibility; the Head Coach of the team will be responsible for completing the disciplinary action.
Ex 1: Player A is given a 2-game suspension, however he is a senior and the incident occurred in the last game of the year.  Since Player A is not eligible to serve the suspension, Player A’s Head Coach will be suspended from the first 2 games of the next season.
 
  1. All hearing and appeals may be expedited per league rules. This includes appointing temporary ad-hoc members to the Discipline Committee if regular members are unavailable. This rule may be invoked at the sole discretion of the President, whose decision to proceed is final.
  2. All suspensions will be counted in the terms of which level at which the disciplinary action was recorded.  A player may not participate in any ALL sponsored games or events until a suspension is completed.
Ex 1: Player A is given a 2-game suspension for an incident occurring in a junior varsity (JV) game, Player A also plays varsity; since the incident occurred in a JV game the player is not eligible to play in any other game at any level until after the second JV game.
